The History of Central Florida's Newest "Old" Airport

How did Orlando Country Airport become Orlando/Apopka Airport?

It all started with an unconventional idea that grew into the most unique aviation project Central Florida has ever seen…………….

In 2004 the developer purchased the Orlando Country Airport.  At the time, the airport had been sleepy little strip just outside of Apopka for 50 years.  But changes were on the way. The developer had the vision to see the rapid growth coming to the area and the need for a home for the numerous General Aviation aircraft that call Central Florida home.

The airport was platted into 194 separate lots which were offered for sale.  It was also annexed into the City of Apopka bringing water, sewer and a new name, Orlando Apopka Airport. Individual owners could then bring their builder to construct the hangars of their dreams.  No more renting a hangar or land leases reducing the value of an owned building.  Now they were building equity and protecting their airplane in a privately owned hangar.  Aviation business owners also saw the value in owning rather than tossing cash away on a leased location.

The response was strong and immediate.  Close to 90% of the sites sold in a year and a half.  Call today for availability and a personal tour of Central Florida’s newest old airport!

Road Update

If you have not visited the airport during the last month then you are in for a surprise!  The new road is under construction and looking great.  This week traffic was moved onto the new road which appears to be close to paving.  Today the crews were regrading the six south hangar lots.  Hopefully these owners will be able to build on their lots soon.

With all of these positive changes - the great deals buyer's have been taking advantage of during the last two years may be about to disappear.  The good news for buyers is that they will now have the confidence that the road will not continue to be an issue.

The Brinckerhoff Financial Group of Raymond James & Associates, Inc held a fly-in breakfast at the Universal Air Service hangar.  A full catered breakfast was provided (Yummy!) and a very informative presentation was made by Amos Akerman of A.T. Akerman Inc., on Part 43 Maintenance. They even had a drawing for a Sporty's gift certificate! It was great to get together and visit with each other as well.  The Brinckerhoff Group plans to host more fly-ins in the future.  Watch the Beacon and this site for details!
